Earth Day. Earth Week. Earth Life. I made this video five years ago for Earth Day and every year since, I reshare it hoping to connect one more time.

I don't think one video is going to change the world - or anything else that I do for that matters. That being said, I think there is value in wilderness travel and being outside. The lessons that I have learned throughout the years have helped me overcome difficult expedition challenges, beat cancer, be a better father and become a better steward of our planet.

When I was a kid, I was inspired by the writings of naturalists, poets and other adventurers. Robert Service was one of my favorites and as I read each line of his poems, I dreamed of the day where I could be outside all the time and 'exploring'. It didn't matter if it was my own backyard or Antarctica.

I still feel the Call of the Wild and a desire to be outside and explore. But I also feel a responsibility to leave our planet better, in whatever small way I can, for future generations.

This video is just as much a reminder to me as to everyone, to get outside, discover something (anything) new and try to do something to lift others, and our planet, up.
