The 2001 Stanley Livingstone Expedition
14 June 2001
The 2001 Stanley Livingstone Expedition will retrace on foot the route taken by Henry M. Stanley during his famous 1871 search for "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" The expedition team will hike 1,000 miles across the breadth of Tanzania from the Indian Ocean to the shores of Lake Tanganyika. A film crew will document the team's adventure as they travel the same footpaths Stanley trod 130 years earlier, traveling from one village to the next. Along the route the team will distribute educational supplies to impoverished rural schools, plant 100,000 "Miracle Trees," and renovate the Livingstone Memorial Museum at Ujiji.\n\nExpedition Site\n
